Wash

How to wash a baby

Important point
  • Wash gently with plenty of foam to avoid damaging the skin.
  • Rinse thoroughly to leave no residue behind.
  • Don't forget to take care about hands and nails of the baby!

When washing your baby, make sure to wash their scalp and forehead areas, as well as the armpits and back of the knees where sweat tends to accumulate, by stretching out the wrinkles and not leaving any residue. Wash their buttocks, which are prone to diaper and other poop stains that can cause skin problems. Use plenty of foam to wrap the dirt with your hands and wash gently, rising all the soap without anything left.

  • Wash the baby's chest gently.
  • Then, the tummy.
  • And wash the baby's back and buttocks on its side.

Wash the baby's chest and tummy rubbing gently, and turn him/her sideways
when you wash the back and buttocks.

  • Make sure you don't leave any residue between his/her fingers
  • Wash thoroughly the tips of the feet and the backs of knees.

When it comes to washing your baby, it's important to choose a body soap that won't harm their delicate skin. It is better to avoid using soap that leaves any cleaning ingredients behind, as this can damage their skin's natural barrier. Instead, look for a soap that rinses off easily and doesn't leave any slimy residue.

And don't forget to rinse thoroughly to avoid any slippery accidents that soapy residue may cause. Just check for visible foam to make sure all the soap is rinsed away, and your baby will be clean and safe!

Moisturize

Moisturizing Methods

Important point
  • Do not rub, but spread evenly!

The thin and delicate baby's skin is easily irritated when it dries out. Moisturize and protect your baby's skin with lotions, not only immediately after birth, but also as the seasons change. And when you're applying moisturizer, make sure to spread it evenly to minimize friction.

  • Moisturize immediately after bathing.
  • Quickly apply a mild moisturizer to the entire body.
  • Don't forget their back and armpits.

Moisturize immediately after bathing. Quickly apply a non-irritating lotion to their entire body, not forgetting the back or armpits. Moisturizing the hips will also protect them from diaper rash.

  • Don't forget to moisturize their toes.
  • Moisturize even between the wrinkles.
  • Moisturize their mouths as they tend to get dry.

Include toes and fingertips, and even between the wrinkles. Don't forget to moisturize the area around the eyes, mouth, and behind the ears.

Wrap

Taking care of clothes and towels
that come in contact with your baby's skin

Important point
  • Clothing that directly touches the skin should be made of stretchable and comfortable materials.
  • Laundry detergent should be safe and gentle to baby's skin and free from synthetic surfactants and fluorescent whiteners that can irritate baby's skin.

While it is of course important to clean and moisturize a baby's body, at SARAYA we consider wrapping a baby with fluffy and gentle towels and clothing as part of skin care. This is because, like body soap and moisturizers, these products come in direct contact with baby's skin every day.

However, even if you rinse thoroughly, detergent ingredients may remain on clothes. If a laundry detergent contains additives such as synthetic surfactants, preservatives, and colorants, the residual ingredients can start to dissolve in sweat and cause skin irritation. It's important to take care of the skin by not only choosing the correct body soap and moisturizer, but also a laundry detergent without additives.

Check the softness of the wash!

Based on tests conducted by SARAYA's Bio Chemical Lab., towels washed with synthetic detergent + fabric softener were compared to towels treated with Laundry Soap and the results showed that towels treated with Laundry Soap had a higher water absorbency (see Pic 1). Moreover, the towels treated with Laundry Soap were softer and smoother after washing compared to the towels treated with only synthetic detergent (see Pic 2).

When using towels with low absorbency, moisture may remain on the skin, leading to increased body heat loss through vaporization. Additionally, stiff towels may cause discomfort and irritation to babies' delicate skin. It is important to properly care for clothes and towels on a daily basis.

Water absorbency and softness are also important for the fabric. Picture 1 shows a comparison of water absorbency of a fabric washed with Laundry Soap and washed with synthetic detergent and fabric softener with the former having better results.
Picture 2 demonstrates a comparison of softness of fabric samples that were washed with Laundry Soap and with synthetic detergent, the latter being harder and rougher.
