Grand opening of Lakanto’s Cafe & Dining Lakan-ka

Grand opening of Lakanto’s Cafe & Dining Lakan-ka.

SARAYA has announced the opening of its own showroom restaurant for natural sweetener Lakanto. The shop's grand opening will be on the 30th of November, in Jingumae, Tokyo (Shibuya).

The shop is called Lakan-ka (らかん・果; lakanka is the Japanese name for monk fruit) and offers a relaxing cafe and dining experience centered around a delicious and healthy menu that demonstrates the versatility and natural sweetness of the monk fruit.

Monk fruit or Luo Han Guo, as it is more traditionally known, is a fruit of the cucurbitaceae family native to Guilin in China, and has been used as traditional herbal medicine since ancient times due to its medicinal effects, being called the “godfather of longevity”. Because of this, Luo Han Guo has gained attention recently in Europe and the United States as a “superfood”. From the fresh fruit of Luo Han Guo we can obtain a high purity extract 300 times sweeter than regular sugar.

In 1995, we launched the zero-calorie, natural sweetener “Lakanto”, and we aim to serve a diverse range of customers: from those who care about their sugar intake in the daily life, to diabetics, to people realizing a diet. Lakanto is a way of lowering the consumption in carbohydrates substituting sugar for a tasty, natural alternative, something that has gained popularity in recent years with like Keto or Low-Carb diets. Consumers are being more conscious of their health, and not only are they looking for foods that keep them healthy, but also for ones that satisfy their palate.

In all the dishes offered at Lakan-ka, no sugar is used, just Lakanto. You can enjoy sweets and confectionery handmade by Asako Iwayani (of the "PÂTISSERIE ASAKO IWAYANAGI”), meal boxes, and a delicious sushi menu.

Menu available in Lakan-ka.
