The Idea Behind Lakanto

Lakanto was born from a very personal challenge. Our founder, Shota Saraya, was living with diabetes and searching for a way to enjoy a full life without compromising health. Inspired by this vision, our research team began exploring natural alternatives to sugar. Their search led them to Guilin, China, where they discovered the monk fruit, a unique plant with natural sweetness that became the foundation of Lakanto.
From the First Version to the World

In 1995, the very first Lakanto product was launched in Japan. Simple in form but innovative in spirit, it offered a natural, plant-based sweetener that could be used just like sugar. Over the years, Lakanto expanded beyond Japan, adapting packaging and presentation to meet the needs of people around the world – always staying true to the same core values of health and balance.
From kitchens to cafés, from home bakers to health-conscious families, Lakanto has become a trusted companion in everyday life. With every step, we have been inspired by the people who use our products and the communities that support us.
